How technology is changing events
Thursday, 18 April 2013
Having worked in planning and managing events for over ten years, we’ve seen first-hand the way technology is impacting upon the industry. Here’s a few of the key drivers for change with a take home tip for each to help you improve your next event.
Social media
One of the biggest changes has been the impact of social media. It’s important to have an active social media presence on the networks where you can engage with confirmed and potential delegates, as well as your guest speakers. Delegates will use social media to inform their attendance decisions and will often sign-up based on peer recommendations.
Take home tip: When delegates buy tickets online – include an option for them to share this news with their social networks.

Ten useful Twitter tools
Monday, 7 January 2013
Twitter is The Media Group’s social network of choice. The default Twitter experience is great but there are hundreds of tools available to add extra functionality. Here’s our pick of ten Twitter tools worth having a look at.
1. Tweetdeck
Tweetdeck is a dashboard for your social media activity. You can organise your Twitter timeline into streams and view your direct messages, interactions and lists side-by-side. You can connect several accounts so you can easily monitor both your personal and business Twitter accounts.
2. IFTTT (If This, Then That)
IFTTT allows automation of your activity between different channels with thousands of pre-determined “recipes”. Our favourites include an option to save and email the tweets you favourite and an option to automatically tweet links to your new blog posts. Head over to IFTTT to find out more.
3. Twunfollow.com
A simple tool to let you know which accounts are unfollowing you and when.

Pinteresting!

Blog from TMG Graphic Designer Alison Booker.
Seems I have a new love in my life. The visual wonderland which is Pinterest.
For those of you who don’t know of its existence (and you can thank me later for introducing it to you), Pinterest is a social photo sharing site which allows users to create virtual pinboards covering just about anything from architecture to fitness as well as my personal favourites, design and events.
It serves as a great source of inspiration, you can browse other users’ pinboards and collate your favourite images – something which is extremely valuable when working on some of the design projects we do here at The Media Group.
