Pinteresting!

Blog from TMG Graphic Designer Alison Booker.

Seems I have a new love in my life. The visual wonderland which is Pinterest.

For those of you who don’t know of its existence (and you can thank me later for introducing it to you), Pinterest is a social photo sharing site which allows users to create virtual pinboards covering just about anything from architecture to fitness as well as my personal favourites, design and events.

It serves as a great source of inspiration, you can browse other users’ pinboards and collate your favourite images – something which is extremely valuable when working on some of the design projects we do here at The Media Group.

Christmas is coming...

We’ve been planning the design for our Christmas cards.

We’ve talked about the idea of sending e-cards, doing something gimmicky and even abandoning cards altogether.

But we still think there is something rather special about receiving a personal Christmas card and knowing that you’ve been remembered.  Plus, nearly all the e-cards I receive are deleted without being opened.

Those that do have to be vetted by our IT team to make sure any website they take you to isn’t going to infest you with the latest virus.

So we’re proudly traditional when it comes to Christmas.  We’ll have a tree and lights and proper cards.

The importance of a brand

We’ve been working on a couple of new brand identities for clients – can’t really mention them at this stage – but it did get me thinking.

How important is a brand and why?

You can spend fortunes on this sort of work – and come away with rubbish.  Or you can come up with something that simply looks cracking – and then work out how much you charge for creative!

I always find that challenging.  How do you cost thinking time?

Anyway one I really like is The FA’s St George’s Park for the National Football Centre.  It’s clean, simple and evocative.

We’ve done one for The FA for their conversation on the future of youth football, called Your Kids Your Say.  There are presentations going on up and down the country (http://www.thefa.com/Leagues/YourKidsYourSay) and every time I see the logo I like it more.
