Design trend predictions for 2013
Thursday, 7 February 2013
We asked our creative team what they think will be the major trends in design for 2013. Graphic Designer Rachael Boothby reports back.
For many designers the word ‘trend’ is a fear inducing term which invokes images of blind reproduction of whatever is ‘in vogue’ at the time. As designers we embrace creative flair and independent thought, therefore following the crowd can sometimes seem quite scary.
However it is important to acknowledge trends as clients often want to be up to speed with popular culture. So having an understanding of what’s up and coming for the following year will only improve the chances of success. Bearing this in mind, here are my predicted design trends for 2013:
Geometrics
A combination of simplification and experimentation with basic shape and colour, coupled with the rise in popularity of infographics and minimalist trends, indicates a return to a more simplistic style.

Looking back and ahead

TMG’s senior graphic designer Ally Booker reflects on a year of design projects.
December is often a time of reflection within design. As our clients take a well-deserved break (and us soon too) we start to look back at what we’ve achieved over the past 12 months.
In this Olympic year, it’s fair to say sport has been a focus for our clients. From creating a new brand for the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust through to producing collateral for the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s Game of Life project, our challenge has been to keep on producing unique and exciting high level designs within the sport sector.

New video - Let’s see how the adults like it!
Friday, 26 October 2012
Here is our next video, produced to promote The FA’s Youth Development Review. Nick Levett, The FA’s National Development Manager, sent out a message via Twitter asking for a number of coaches to come and join him at St. George’s Park for a game of football – to be filmed in high definition by TMG. He even managed to get former England player Steve Hodge involved.
We asked Imogen, an under 11’s player, to be our presenter for the match which came with a twist. We had a huge goal made and extra big pitch markings to simulate what it is like for the youth footballers playing on adult sized pitches. The coaches struggled with the size of the pitch and goal and were exhausted by the end of the match.
The videos are part of a multi-channel campaign to support the implementation of The FA’s changes to youth football over the coming years.

Blog from TMG Graphic Designer Alison Booker.
Seems I have a new love in my life. The visual wonderland which is Pinterest.
For those of you who don’t know of its existence (and you can thank me later for introducing it to you), Pinterest is a social photo sharing site which allows users to create virtual pinboards covering just about anything from architecture to fitness as well as my personal favourites, design and events.
It serves as a great source of inspiration, you can browse other users’ pinboards and collate your favourite images – something which is extremely valuable when working on some of the design projects we do here at The Media Group.
