As The Media Group’s newest work experience student, I’m acting as a guest writer on the blog to discuss my time here – however brief – and also what I have learnt from the opportunity to work in such a positive and varied atmosphere.
The first two days of my time with TMG were spent at this year’s FA Disciplinary Conference in Wyboston, which presented the opportunity to act behind the scenes of a conference, as opposed to just being an attendee. Despite not being the biggest football fan, I found the various seminars and workshops incredibly engaging - particularly Jenni Kennedy’s, which discussed The FA’s disciplinary actions regarding social media. Working with members of TMG’s ‘Media and Production’ team, I also contributed to a few aspects of the running of the conference: proof-reading presentation slides, being the ‘microphone girl’ during periods of open questions, and creating a myriad of table plans for the delegates’ dinner.
Through this, I was able to improve my presentation skills, especially in terms of layout, and also how to efficiently solve a problem – both of which will be incredibly useful throughout my remaining time at university. It was certainly a unique experience, and definitely helped me realise the sheer amount of work conducted in preparation for an event such as this one, and also just how much the smaller details make a difference.
